I took a class with LA-based trainer Luke Milton, who’s on Khloe Kardashian‘s Revenge Body (which airs Thursday nights at 9 PM on E!), at his studio Training Mate two days ago. I still can’t walk… in the best way, obv. But more than a pair of thighs that currently hate me, I left with a new perspective on why people are consumed with constantly working out. Luke refreshingly brings heart and soul to society’s superficial and trendy obsession with having a good body, and it’s everything.
I’m clearly no gym rat, but like the premise of Khloe’s show (which Luke will be on tonight, btw), I find fuckhead ex-boyfriends, work struggles, and frustrations of feeling stagnant as the most powerful motivations to get my ass moving. Do I want to look bomb when I see my loser ex? Of COURSE. But as Luke explains, it’s more about a state of mind. Working out is a choice. It’s escapism, really. I joke with Luke that all trainers are always so damn happy, because, well, endorphins on endorphins. He laughs and agrees, but really, there’s more that motivates him, other instructors, and anyone who loves the gym to do what they do everyday.
Luke took on my initiative #WeAreMore, and proved not all gym rats fit the muscle-head-frat-boy stereotype.

And he has an image. He’s a hot, extremely fit, chiseled, successful trainer with a great Australian accent. But without taking his class or seeing him reflect on himself in #WeAreMore, you may not realize he’s also warm, fun-loving, bright, and extremely soulful. His class felt more like a party than anything else, and I didn’t want to leave (thigh burning aside). It just felt good. And that’s exactly his intention.
What’s one thing people wouldn’t know about Luke from his image? He writes “Love.” And I believe him. I felt nothing but love that night. So rather than seeking more squats for those perfect bikini pics on Instagram, embrace Luke’s message in working out clarity and a positive-AF state of mind. And on that note, I’ll leave you with this epic Luke quote:
“You don’t have to be a douchebag to burn calories.”
