Like everyone on planet earth, I’m obsessed with Jane the Virgin. It gets me through my day/week/life. Why? For starters, it convinces me that a real-life Michael-Rafael hybrid will come sweep me off my feet as I’m balls deep in a pint of Talenti on a Saturday night. Andrea Navedo, whose character Xo has an ongoing romance with Rogelio (Jaime Camil), explains why the idealized version of love for single girls like me ain’t always all it’s cracked up to be.

I think we’re all guilty of forgetting this part. An element to both Michael (Brett Dier) and Rafael’s (Justin Baldoni) demeanor that makes fans’ panties drop is their ballsiness in fighting for Jane. Who doesn’t want that? But as Andrea reminds us, love also means work. Even after your man feeds you Talenti.

“I’ve been with my husband for 19 years, so I’m a little more realistic,” Andrea says. “You gotta make sure you hang in there, because it’s not easy.” Andrea admits she still hasn’t gotten it completely right when it comes to knowing how to keep things fresh—after the initial spark, proposal, wedding, kids, and two decades, I imagine it being a challenge-and-a-half.
“I’m still figuring it out, so if you figure it out, could you let me know?”
