Fact: None of us would be who or where we are today without universal icon Damian from Mean Girls to guide us through life and embrace/squash basic bitches. Is Daniel Franzese, the man behind the on-screen legend, fed up with people primarily recognizing him from that one role, though?
When I met him, I asked if he gets annoyed when he’s approached by fans quoting his character or mostly acknowledging him from the 2004 movie. Because honestly, if I wasn’t interviewing him, I’d probably stalk hardcore saying things like “crack.”
Hold on. You don’t know Damian from Mean Girls?
You are some weird warlock who isn’t familiar with Damian from Mean Girls, aren’t you? I’m going to have you come over here and give you a long talking to. At that point I will tell you to get your goddamn life right and afterwards, you’ll appreciate Daniel’s honesty in this interview. He says fans understandably give him the urge to punch them in the face (“it was awesome”)—but only when it’s called for. Props.
You’ll also see that the actor is more than the iconic character most of us know and love him as. Beyond Mean Girls, he talks about love life with bae, Joseph Bradley Phillips, who has a little cameo. Together, they make me feel single AF which will only be the third time today, thank god. Joseph ended up proposing at a Starbucks and they continued being a really freaking cute couple. I learned about this after the interview, by the way.
All-in-all, though, it’s cool to see Daniel’s laid-back understanding about his situation. People are going to recognize him from the classic film, and unlike other celebs, it doesn’t tick him off. And even if he did punch me, I’d walk away stanning.
