Talk To Me Taylor

‘Wonder Woman’s Record-Breaking Patty Jenkins Doesn’t Feel Badass & I’m Shook

in My Selfie Stick, Personal on 06/12/17

Patty Jenkins is such a boss I literally can’t take it. The director is fresh into having the number one movie in the world, but she’s already a damn legend as far as I can tell. This lady broke records with Wonder Woman, as the biggest opening ever for a female director. Not to mention, she’s openly discussed walking away from directing a Thor sequel, because yes, it was a huge opportunity, just not the one for her. Previously known for writing and directing 2003’s Monster, this woman cannot be stopped.

But get this: Patty doesn’t feel like a boss.

Number one movie in the world. (One I’m obsessed with, btw.) A US record-breaker. And still no pat on the back for herself? C’mon. But for real, Patty is so humble about her success, I almost wonder if she’s hard on herself. I mean, really. I imagine you’d have to be feeling a little bit of that ego boost, at least when you’re home at night.

But not for Patty. Her struggle isn’t over, because she refreshingly sees her journey as a process. In a world of immediate gratification, I’m still taken back.

“That’s a dangerous thing to think. Nobody’s a badass and nobody’s a boss,” she says. “We all can only try. And that’s the secret… The moment never comes where you’re done with any struggle and it never will… You never arrive, and that’s OK.”

That struggle talk? I know it well.

And she gets it. But Patty’s perspective shifts my own. Instead of seeking gratification and instant success, I’m going to enjoy the damn growth of my journey. Every second of it. If this wonder woman can do it, I sure as hell can too.
