The Pressure to Have “Balance” in Your 20’s Is Garbage

in Behind the Scenes on 04/19/17

I cannot. What is with everyone being up my tail about not having enough “balance” in life?? People need to knock it off. Millennials get a bad rap for being selfishly focused on themselves, their careers, and their money. And what in the world is wrong with that?

Newsflash, everyone busting my balls: I don’t care about having balance right now. I care about thriving and accomplishing my goals.

I went on one date for the first time since ‘nam last week. Left after an hour, thinking about all of the work stuff I could’ve been doing. And that’s how it should be for someone like me. This idea of “balance,” having an equal work, social, and dating life, is crap. I highly doubt any boss CEOs, professional athletes, or Oscar winners were dilly dallying with “balance” when they were in their 20’s.

I joke about being single AF, but the thought of being distracted by a guy gives me 10x more anxiety.

So if family, friends, or strangers are on your case about not having enough of a “social life” etc., tell them to stick it where the sun don’t shine, and live your life. I used to feel fomo/guilty about it, until I didn’t. I realized I’ll be laughing my way to the bank one day when everyone else was too busy with “balance,” and if not, at least I gave a damn good shot at trying while I could.

Me judging ppl who tell me I need balance moving forward:
