Have you ever thought about the connection between sex and food? Does love of food and sex go hand in hand? If you don’t have a passion or strong appetite for food, are you bad in bed? I have my thoughts, and took the opportunity to explore this some more with the food pros at The Infatuation’s EEEEEATSCON 2018 festival in LA.
First of all, are sex and good related?
Yes, yes they are. Eloquently put by a writer at the Telegraph a few years ago, “How you eat is how you shag.” What an icon. And there’s some science to explain the relationship between sex and food. The article says that appetite for both are traced to the same part of the brain, the nucleus accumbens, AKA the “reward center.”
When talking about the lust for life and desire to experience life’s pleasures, there’s something to be said about people, particularly women, depriving themselves. Alexandra Jamieson, author of Women, Food, and Desire, shed some insight for Women’s Health. When women start to become more aware of food and calories and begin to withhold from enjoying them, it can negatively impact sex or sexual desire. “If you don’t feel that your body deserves pleasure, then you’ll develop a disconnect with it in all areas — and you won’t be able to feel pleasure in the bedroom,” she said. (She also gave some super sexual pointers to enjoy food, like, “smell it, feel it against your lips, inhale the aroma.”) Who else is turned on?
So yes, as someone who’s obsessed with food, and am almost offended if you’re not, I really think people who love food are better in bed. They carpe the hell out of the diem and take the time to enjoy the details in life, IMO. But…
Would you rather give up sex or food?
Check out the video below, where I talk to chefs, restauranteurs, and Infatuation staff at EEEEEATSCON and outside the awesome #AmexGold Oasis lounge about it all.

And for the road, some snippets from my glorious time at EEEEEATSCON.
NoMad’s “The Nomad” — Chicken burger with truffle mayo, frisee, and pickled shallots
Porto’s Bakery’s Potato balls — mashed potato filled with ground beef, onions, peppers, Spanish seasonings, coated in panko bread crumbs and fried
Peet’s Coffee, black like my soul
Food is life, guys. And apparently, it’s sex too.
