Talk To Me Taylor

Charlie Puth Knows Why ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ Is My Life

in My Selfie Stick, Relationships on 10/23/16

If you live within a thousand-mile radius of Los Angeles, you’re in luck. Chances are, you’ll hear a white girl belting Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez’s “We Don’t Talk Anymore” like a tone-deaf, dying squirrel. That girl would be me. My car is my stage, and I don’t regret a thing.

But in all honesty, the song has more than a sexy and ridiculously-contagious rhythm. It has been an unlikely aid for me in getting through a bad breakup for months. Time I would’ve spent talking on the phone or thinking about this person, especially in may car (goddamn you, LA traffic), was replaced with time listening to Charlie’s song. It weirdly gave me comfort. I knew I wasn’t alone in the empty and strange feeling of moving on from something that was once so comfortable and exciting.

Every lyric mirrored how I felt, and how I sometimes still feel months later.

When I met Charlie, the man himself, I knew I needed to have the religious bonding experience with him over this gospel. It was a selfish move, yes. But I also wanted to give anyone else out there who appreciates the song as much as I do a little something. We all want a piece of the creator’s brain to know where it came from. In turn, we feel less alone.

Although Charlie may not have such a similar experience to pull inspo from, he still gets us. Disappointed? Maybe a little. But I can’t say I’m mad. This song still has a way of cutting through my damn soul and it hurts so good.
