If you take away anything from this site, I hope it’s that Hollywood isn’t nearly as perfect or glamorous as it seems. For years, I watched the polished E! red carpets, fantasizing about the untouchable universe made up of larger-than-life gowns and the glow of paparazzi flashes. It’s thrilling and exciting, I won’t deny that. And as superficial as it can be, it’s also real. It’s made up of real people with real problems and flaws and insecurities—ones everyone has. Leave that to the people who are behind the scenes, like me, though. Celebrities feel constant pressure to look flawless, and I can’t say I blame them. But when you’re out there on the red carpet, constantly next to them, it can definitely take a toll on you.
Avoiding comparing yourself to celebrities is almost impossible.
Their spray tans are GD glowing perfection. The weaves are voluminous and perfectly-styled to godly proportions. Also, their teeth are whiter than Martha Stewart. And how they get their boobs so perky and picturesque (sans surgery), I’ll never know.
But I have flyaways. I can’t afford spray tans. And my boobs have a mind of their own.
Therefore, sometimes talking to celebrities literally leaves me as such:
And I’m not alone. My dear friend, down-to-earth chick, and kickass fellow reporter Raha Lewis told me how she can feel insecure when interviewing celebs on the carpet, too. And trust me, after making red carpets her bitch for over eight years, Raha is a damn vet. So if she feels like a wildebeest from time to time when out in the field, I know I’m in good company.
But when you remember you’re real and you’re human and you’re out there getting your paper on your grind, you’re like oh yeah…
