To us peasants watching glamorous awards shows and such from the comfort of our homes, the red carpet seems glitzy AF. As a red carpet reporter, I can confidently say: LOL. Don’t be fooled, regardless of how many Givenchy dresses graze the carpet and how many Beyonces and Meryls breath on it. The experience can still be les mis as hell. If you want to get realer than real about anything Hollywood-related, you want to talk to girls like Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart. Hollywood BS couldn’t amuse them less, nor should it.
I had a little talking to with these down-to-earth ladies with a goal in mind.
I wanted to give fans at home a dose of red carpet reality.
Grace, Hannah, and I discussed the basic ups and downs of the carpet experience. These are things we would never see while watching from home. There’s the motherucker of getting ready, and its ungodly evil stepmother, the dress. It looks gorg, but cuts off your circulation and pee flow. I’m not even sure if most of these dresses are safe.
Then, deranged photographers are screaming your name. I wouldn’t know, but Hannah points out how that can be annoying and flattering all at the same time. Once you make it through the carpet and the event and the fake clapping, there’s the after party. Understandably, these two are pretty whatevs about that.
While these real-life BFFs are still learning to navigate the red carpet chaos, I’m proud that Hannah experienced a first with me: using a selfie stick. #Honored.
Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart, if you’re listening: Next pregame is at my place.
