Dev Shah is master of none. Thus, a master of relationships, he is not. But who on god’s green earth is? If you remember, in the season 1 finale of Aziz Ansari’s Netflix hit Master of None, his character Dev was seriously questioning his relationship. He’s reluctant to settle down and commit because, WTF, society, why you trynna tell us what to do all the time? Dev can’t help but wonder if he’ll be happy with Rachel (Noël Wells) forever (AKA for-ev-er) if they do commit. Worried at the thought alone, he throws in the towel.
Because seriously, how TF are we supposed to know??
Later, Dev’s (and all of our) worries are validated when Ben (H. Jon Benjamin) tells him that after over two decades of marriage, “100 percent” happiness is a fallacy.
FUUUUUUUQQQQ.
But also…
Knew it.
Commitment is scary. Divorce happens more than LA botox injections, and the thought of forever makes me need boxed wine supply on my lap, pronto. And not even Aziz has the answers.
Maybe Dev’s course of action is inspired by the 33-year-old’s real-life experiences trying to figure this shiz out. The actor, who keeps his personal life on the low, tells me he sees the pros and cons of a monogamous, committed relationship, but also has had his fun keeping it light while single, too. Maybe one isn’t necessarily better than the other.
And until we figure it out…
