Ironically, I spoke with “Case of the Ex” Queen Mya about confronting exes before her 2000 anthem even came to mind. See, the night prior, I had met up with someone I used to know in order to tell them to fuck off once and for all via a handwritten letter. I needed closure. Can you tell?
Although Mya understood where I was coming from in my sudden and semi-aggressive act of pissed off-ness, she probably wouldn’t have done the same thing. That said, she shared her approach to dealing with exes and giving them a piece of your mind—and I’m kind of obsessed. Although she isn’t a fan of the in-your-face method, she has no problem telling them what time it is ASAP.
In fact, Mya encourages us to do so, too.
She’s classy, yet frank, and has the ticket to making your ex feel like crap. If they’re smart enough to hear you out, that is. But I think we can all agree that knowing they are an ex already helps get closure. If they were worthy, they’d still be with you, or kicking and screaming trying to be.
And what I love about Mya’s advice is that it allows you to get your point across while still getting the last word (my actual favorite thing in life). Meanwhile, you’re walking away on your terms.
My mood right now and forever more:
Ily, Mya.
