Talk To Me Taylor

People Ask if I Meet Guys on Red Carpets & Here’s How That Goes

in Behind the Scenes on 06/16/17

People love asking me if I meet guys when working red carpets. I tell them nah. Their follow-up is usually the ever so inevitable: Why? Sit back and relax, kids, and let me count the reasons.

First of all, I’m not really looking to date an actor or celebrity. I can’t have someone looking in the mirror to check their hair more times a day than I do. Maybe I’m playing into stereotypes. Or maybe, just maybe, I’ve seen too much. It’s a cold world. I’M KIDDING.

Or am I.

Nah, not all celebs are totally egocentric. They’re just doing their jobs and so am I.

Second, I feel like there’s an immediate sense of skepticism on their end because the reporter-celebrity dynamic is an interesting one. I could publish whatever I wanted about them at the flip of a switch with my access to numerous outlets — not that I would because that isn’t how I roll — I’m just saying. If I was a celebrity walking a carpet with my promo in the hands of strangers and a publicist breathing down my neck, I’d be reluctant, too. Some of them even have that deer-in-headlights look. It’s almost cute.

Don’t get me wrong. When I was young and naive all of eight months ago, I wouldn’t be mad if a cute celebrity and I vibed. Now here I am, old and wise and very indifferent.

So there you have it.

Male celebrities on red carpets are either afraid of every move they make, maybe on an ego trip, or taken. I forgot taken. (Most of the good ones, obviously, but how is that different than real life?)

And last but most certainly not least, I’m there to WERK. I’m trying to build a business over here, not a future husband. But if the right guy came, the right guy came and I wouldn’t be mad at that either. That said, get at me, boys.
