Boring-ass interviews are a dime a dozen, especially these days. While no one actually likes them (and if they do, god help us all), lame interview questions are safe and in-the-box in this overly sensitive and PC world. Stepping outside the box is scary AF. I’ve put my life on the line, here, people. But I’ve had it for a while now and relished in glory when I heard Brie Larson reveal her same frustration at The LA Online Film Critics Society Awards last winter. I brought the issue to the red carpet and chatted with Superstore and Crazy Rich Asians actor Nico Santos about it.V
In all seriousness, we are in extremely difficult place as journalists when it comes to navigating the sensitive media climate and asking anything substantial. Staying in the bounds of “appropriate” and “approved” questions is not only vanilla, it’s just not even journalism or free press. And while some celebrities want to be asked more in-depth questions (remember #AskHerMore?), we get reprimanded and/or threatened most of the time when we do ask them.
What gives?
